SURGERY SUB-BMC
Surgery Sub-BMC identified as
service delivery and a budget centre within the hospital, provides specialized
surgical care. Administratively, the Sub-BMC is managed by an appointed Core
Management Team.
The Sub-BMC is made up of
thirteen (13) specialized sub-units with staff strength of about four hundred
and ninety-two (492), and one hundred and fifty-three (153) inpatient bed
complement.

PROVIDED BY SUB-BMC
1. General Surgery; Perform general surgeries
as well as pre and post-operative care
2. Intennsive Care Unit (ICU); Provide
comprehensive care for critically ill patients
3. Thoracic care; Provide treatment of
disorders of organs of the chest/thorax area
4. Plastic Surgery; Perform repairs/reconstruction
of missing or damaged tissue and skin
5. Neurosurgery; Perform surgeries and
treatments for nervous system disorder
6. Urology; Surgical care for diseases of the
kidneys, bladder, prostate and reconstruction of the genito-urinary tract.

BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH
Dr
Edwin Mwintiereh Ta-ang YENLI is a Senior lecturer at the Department of
Surgery, School of Medicine (SoM), University for Development Studies (UDS). He
worked at the SoM, at UDS, Tamale and The Tamale Teaching Hospital(TTH), Ghana,
since 2010. Currently, he is the Head of the Department of Surgery at the SoM,
UDS and the Tamale Teaching Hospital(TTH). He has over 15 years of
professional/clinical working experience and over 10 years of teaching
experience. He holds a Bachelor of
Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) degree from the University for
Development Studies/Kwame Nkrumah University for Science and Technology (2004).
He is a surgeon who holds a Membership Certificate in Surgery (2009) and a
Fellowship Certificate in Surgery-Urology (2013) from the Ghana College of
Physicians and Surgeons. His main areas of research include: inguinal hernia,
surgical site infection, infection of the genitourinary tract, urethral
stricture, hypospadias, cancers of the genitourinary tract, urolithiasis and
nutrition in surgery. He has published over 40 scientific articles in peer
review journals. He has made several presentations at local and international
meetings. He collaborated with NIHR Global Surgery/University of
Birmingham/University of Edinburg on research titled “Pragmatic multicenter
FActorial randomized controlled triaL testing measures to reduCe surgical site
infection in lOw- and middle-income countries (FALCON)”. He is an advocate for
Minimal Invasive and Endourological Surgery in Northern Ghana and performed the
early cases of laparoscopic surgery at the Tamale Teaching Hospital.
Subsequently, he established laparoscopic and endourology surgical practice at
the Kabsad Scientific Hospital in Tamale, the Homeland Hospital in Wa and the
Ultima Platz Hospital in Zuarongo, Bolgatanga.
