About Our Hospital

The Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) was commissioned in 1974 as a regional hospital to provide health care services to the people of Tamale and its environs. It was also to serve as the main medical referral centre for the Northern Sector of the country, including the Upper East and West regions. The hospital previously operated from the premises of the Old Central Hospital and later moved to its present location after the construction of the new hospital was completed and commissioned in 1974.

The hospital has since 2009 been upgraded to a teaching hospital and serves as the only tertiary healthcare provider in the entire Northern Ghana, including the Northern Region, Upper West and East regions, Savannah Region, North-East Region, Bono and Ahafo regions and the Oti Region. The hospital also receives clients from some parts of Burkina Faso, Cote d'Ivoire and Togo.
