The Paediatric and Child Health Department marked this year’s World Cancer Day with a comprehensive awareness campaign focused on childhood cancer. The event featured a variety of activities, including radio education programs and community outreaches to various locations, such as Tishigu, Central Hospital, and other surrounding areas.
During the outreach, staff and clients at the Antenatal Clinic (ANC) and Central Hospital were engaged on critical issues related to childhood cancer. The campaign extended its reach to the NMC Tamale and the Community College of Health in Sakasaka, ensuring the message about cancer awareness was spread widely.
Leading the campaign was Dr. Yaninga Halwani Fuseini, Senior Specialist Paediatrician and Acting Head of Department. Dr. Fuseini emphasized the importance of recognizing the early warning signs of cancer in children, stressing that early detection and intervention are crucial for improving outcomes.
Through these efforts, the Paediatric and Child Health Department aims to enhance public knowledge of childhood cancer, encourage early diagnosis, and provide support to affected families, reinforcing the importance of timely medical care.
