Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) has intensified its efforts to raise awareness about palliative care services, targeting not only clinicians within the hospital but also healthcare providers at peripheral facilities and the general public. This initiative aims to ensure better recognition and utilization of the hospital's palliative care services.
In an exclusive interview with Margaret Gbogryang, a Palliative Care Nurse Specialist at TTH, she urged clinicians to take full advantage of the availability of palliative care services in the hospital and actively refer patients who require it. She emphasized that palliative care is a specialized care for individuals diagnosed with life-limiting conditions.

According to Margaret, one of the main goals of palliative care is to provide comprehensive support to both patients and their families, aiming to improve the quality of life for those facing serious, chronic illnesses. "Palliative care is not just about end-of-life care; it's about enhancing comfort and dignity for those living with life-limiting conditions," she stated.
She further urged healthcare professionals to be proactive in offering palliative care options to their patients, highlighting that the service is a valuable resource for managing symptoms, pain, and the emotional and psychological stresses that often accompany serious illness.
Madam Margaret noted that the outpatient department (OPD) services are available at the Internal Medicine unit Mondays, providing an opportunity for patients and families to access essential support.
The hospital's awareness programme is expected to reduce the misconceptions about palliative care, ensuring that more patients and families benefit from these essential services.
