The
Chief Executive Officer, Dr. (Med) Abubakari Bawah Abdulai, has initiated a
two-day refresher training to enhance leadership and communication competencies
among managers - a landmark effort to enhance service delivery in the Tamale
Teaching Hospital.
The
CEO emphasized that the training forms part of his broader vision to build a
culture of effective communication, teamwork, and accountability across the
hospital. He explained that strong leadership and clear communication are
critical to improving healthcare delivery and patient satisfaction.
“Our
goal is to build leadership capacity at every level of the hospital. When
leaders communicate effectively, teams perform better, and patients receive
better care,” he said.
Echoing
the CEO’s vision, the Director of Medical Affairs, Prof. Alhassan
Abdul-Mumin, noted that many of the hospital’s challenges stem from poor
communication between healthcare providers and clients. He added that the
initiative reflects Management’s firm commitment to addressing these gaps
through capacity building and continuous professional development.
The
training focused on leadership and change management, effective
communication in healthcare, and customer care. The two-day training
workshop brought together senior and middle-level managers, including
Directors, Deputy Directors, and Heads of Departments and Units.
The
two-day training was facilitated by persons of high professional and
academic repute from diverse background: Prof. Ibrahim Osman Adam, Dean of the
School of Business at the University for Development Studies (UDS); Prof.
Eliasu Mumuni, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies,
UDS; and Mr. Abdul-Basit Mohammed of Absa Bank, Tamale.
The
initiative underscores CEO’s commitment to building a progressive,
people-centered clinical health teams of professionals focused on excellence in
healthcare delivery and changing the narrative.
