The Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Abubakari Bawah Abdulai, has reaffirmed the hospital's commitment to the successful implementation of the Ghana–Cuba Medical Brigade (CMB) Programme during a visit by a monitoring team from the Ministry of Health (MoH).
Welcoming the delegation, Dr. Abubakari underscored the significance of the Ghana–Cuba partnership in strengthening specialist healthcare delivery across the country. He noted that the programme, which facilitates the deployment of Cuban medical specialists to healthcare facilities in Ghana, continues to play a vital role in addressing critical gaps in specialist services.
"The specialists under the Cuba Medical Brigade are making significant contributions to specialist healthcare delivery and helping to bridge important human resource gaps within our health system," he stated.
The team from the Ministry of Health, led by Dr. Joseph Dodoo, was at the hospital as part of a nationwide monitoring exercise to assess the performance of specialists serving under the Cuba Medical Brigade Programme.
The monitoring mission focused on evaluating the quality of specialist healthcare services provided by the Cuban medical professionals, their integration into the hospital's clinical and operational systems, as well as identifying challenges affecting their work.
During the meeting, Dr. Dodoo also briefed management on an upcoming scientific forum that will bring together specialists under the Ghana–Cuba Programme to showcase their research and share experiences. He appealed to management to support the initiative, describing it as an important platform for promoting research, knowledge exchange, and continuous professional development.
Management of Tamale Teaching Hospital and the monitoring team further held discussions on strategies to strengthen the Ghana–Cuba Medical Brigade Programme to ensure its continued contribution to improving access to quality specialist healthcare services in Ghana.
The visit reaffirmed the Ministry of Health's commitment to monitoring the programme's implementation and fostering collaboration with healthcare institutions to enhance specialist service delivery nationwide.
