Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) has recorded a major academic and professional milestone as eighteen of its clinicians have been inducted into the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons (GCPS). The team comprises fifteen Members and three Fellows who successfully completed their postgraduate specialist training.
The newly inducted Members include Dr. (Med) Mundashiru Yahaya, Dr. (Med) Charles Kwabena Doku, and Dr. (Med) Jonathan Quansah, all Specialist Surgeons; Dr. (Med) Benedict Famous Atanga Anonsoe, Dr. (Med) Ramatu Shaibu, Dr. (Med) Awog-badek Abaanamkadila Darwin, Dr. (Med) Grace Ohene Marfo, Dr. (Med) Rena Mwinianaa Kpelle, and Dr. (Med) Mary Abarike, all Specialist Family Physicians; Dr. (Med) Eugenia Teteki Akornor, Specialist Otorhinolaryngologist (ENT Surgeon); Dr. (Med) Patience Ngmintieru Bacho, Specialist Physician in Internal Medicine; Dr. (Med) Dieu-Donnee Anyekase and Dr. (Med) Caroline Ayidiya, both Specialist Obstetricians and Gynaecologists; Dr. (Med) Mavis A. Ayimbire, Specialist Paediatrician; and Dr. (Med) Raphael Kwarase, Specialist Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon.
The three Fellows are Dr. (Med) Etuh Ighohwo of the Faculty of Surgery and Subspecialties, Dr. (Med) Samuel Yao Alomatu of the Faculty of Internal Medicine, and Dr. (Med) Catherine Yiyugsah, a Paediatric Oncologist.
Their achievement represents a new wave of highly trained specialists emerging from the hospital and underscores TTH’s progress as one of the leading training and tertiary care institution in Ghana.
The induction marks a significant milestone for Tamale Teaching Hospital, which has consistently prioritized specialist training and care as a strategy to strengthen clinical services and broaden the spectrum of expertise available to patients. With the addition of these specialists, the hospital is better positioned to deliver comprehensive, advanced, and patient-centered care across multiple disciplines.
Commenting on the achievement, the Chief Executive Officer of TTH, Dr. (Med.) Abubakari Bawah Abdulai, described the development as a major boost to the hospital’s capacity to provide high-quality healthcare.
The induction of the eighteen clinicians not only highlights individual professional success but also strengthens Tamale Teaching Hospital’s role in advancing specialist healthcare delivery and medical education in Ghana.
