Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH), a key partner within the AMPATH Ghana network, has welcomed a visiting team from the New York Simulation Center (NYSIM) to support a week-long faculty capacity-strengthening workshop on simulation-based medical education.
The training, delivered under the AMPATH Ghana TEACH Project in collaboration with the University for Development Studies (UDS), is part of a broader effort to position the Tamale Education and innovAtion Center for Health Professionals (TEACH) as a regional centre of excellence in medical education.
Receiving the delegation on behalf of hospital leadership, the Acting Director of Nursing and Midwifery Services, Mrs. Rebecca Mathew, commended the strength of the AMPATH Ghana partnership and emphasized the importance of sustained collaboration to expand training and research opportunities.
The workshop brings together faculty from the UDS School of Medicine and School of Nursing and Midwifery, alongside clinicians from key TTH departments including Accident and Emergency and Internal Medicine.
Facilitated by NYSIM, and Co-Led by New York University Grossman School of Medicine, the Comprehensive Simulation Education Course has been adapted to the Ghanaian context to build local capacity in simulation-based teaching and clinical training.
Participants will gain hands-on experience in designing simulation scenarios and Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) cases, while also developing skills to integrate simulation into routine clinical education and conduct medical education research.
This initiative reflects AMPATH Ghana’s long-term commitment to strengthening healthcare workforce capacity through practical, innovative training approaches that improve the quality of care across northern Ghana.
